At Chatham Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy, our staff is dedicated to providing the highest quality care and outcomes for our patients. Our therapists work closely with our physicians to create a team approach tailored for each patient's specific needs. The experienced staff provides knowledge and insight into developing specific rehabilitation programs. Our staff utilizes continuing education to learn the latest and most effective treatments to provide the best care for our patients. Our facility has many different types of equipment from isokinetics to isotonics, which help in the recovery of an injury or following surgery. We offer the latest technology in measuring strength, speed, and power capabilities for all athletics events. We have unlimited capabilities to simulate work-related tasks and objectively evaluate patient effort and progress. Another service of our facility includes the latest technology in regards to modalities used for decreasing pain, inflammation and retraining muscular deficiencies. On your initial visit our therapists will do an evaluation based on your diagnosis from your physician and then give you a treatment plan, which will include exercises that will need to be performed at home.

PHYSICAL THERAPISTS

Jason Hux, PT, MS. Jason is the director of Chatham Sport Medicine and graduate of Armstrong Atlantic State University where he received a Master's of Science degree in Physical Therapy. His undergraduate Degree is in Exercise and Sports Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Jason's specialties include foot and ankle dysfunction with orthotic fabrication and golf specific rehabilitation/performance. He has worked with weight lifting athletes at the national and Olympic levels and takes pleasure in returning all athletes to sports in optimum condition.

Clara Valoze, MPT. Clara is the office manager and received a Master's degree in physical therapy from Touro College in NY. She oversees all scheduling and billing processes. She aspires to continually improve the communication between physicians, case managers, and other members of the healthcare community, in order to provide the best care to patients.

Derek Johnson, MPT, MBA. Derek graduated in 1998 from the University of Evansville in Evansville, Indiana with his Master's in physical therapy. Derek received an M.B.A. with an emphasis in Healthcare Administration from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois in 2002. Derek has many years of clinical experience with emphasis in sports medicine rehabilitation of shoulder, knee and foot/ankle injuries. Derek has a strong interest in athletics and enjoys combining this passion with his clinical expertise to help individuals care for and prevent injuries resulting from every day to high performance activities.

Jason Paul, PTA. Jason received his Physical Therapy Assistant degree from South University in 2005. He enjoys the interpersonal relationships that develop in the outpatient orthopaedic setting. His hobbies include scuba diving and martial arts.

Katie Ashbaugh, DPT. Katie graduated from Slippery Rock University with doctorate in Physical Therapy. She completed her undergraduate degree in Wellness. She is currently working toward her Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist Certification to further her career in sports medicine.

Kristel Maes, MS, PT, cert. MDT. Kristel has a Master's degree in physical therapy from the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium. She has a specialization in neck and back treatment and is pursing a diploma program within that field called McKenzie. She worked in Germany in an orthopaedic center and was head of the physical therapy department at a US Army base in Germany.

Jody Faxon, PTA. Jody is a graduate of Morgan Community College in Colorado. He graduated in 1997 with a Physical Therapist Assistant degree. He has experienced in a wide variety of Orthopaedic therapies including traumatic, surgical, sport medicine, industrial medicine and manual therapy addressing all joints and the spine.

Andrew Sauers, PTA. Andrew is a native of Savannah where he graduated from Benedictine Military School in 2003. He later graduated from South University in 2008 with his Physical Therapy Assistant degree. Since his degree, he has completed several hours of continuing education with an emphasis in manual therapy to address joint abnormalities, muscle tension issues, and pain during movement. He also enjoys working with athletes from surrounding areas and is able to relate with a number of patients due to his own past sports injuries.

HAND THERAPY

Chatham Sports Medicine offers a full service hand therapy clinic. Every patient will receive a thorough assessment and individualized treatment program. Chatham Sports Medicine believes that quality care is best delivered via hands on approach. Our therapist to patient ratio is one to one; therefore, patients will spend a majority of their clinic time in direct contact with the therapist. Several specialized services are available including: whirlpool, Computerized Greenleaf evaluations, impairments ratings, and a private wound care/treatment Area.

Eric Orr, OT, CHT. Eric is a 1994 graduate of the Medical College of Georgia where he received a degree in Occupational Therapy. He has many years of experience in hand therapy and is nationally recognized as a Board Certified Hand Therapist. Areas of specialization include: industrial trauma, wound care, and custom splinting. He has served as an advisor for product development for several companies.
